I Have just the same problem as you with bank-switching.
Is it the GUS-driver that is not working?
Maybe Gravis will solve this problem!!!!(Hopefully in their next
version!!)

Subject: Howling Dog Systems Patch CD Vol 1 Info
I've had a number of response regarding the Power Patch CD-ROMs for the GUS
requesting more information. We are doing a mail offer and since you folks are
at the heart of GUS music-making we'll offer it here first.
Until July 31/95 you can order *both* UltraSound Power Patch CD-ROMs (a total
of 80 MB of patches) for only $129.95 US!
Please add $5.00 shipping.
Here's some info for y'all on the Volume 1 CD. If no-one minds, I'll post info
on Volume 2 tomorrow. I've tried to condense this as much as I can. If you
want even more info, e-mail me!
Howling Dog Systems is pleased to announce availability of a number of
high quality add-on patch sets for the Gravis UltraSound sound card. Here is
condensed information on the UltraSound Patch Sets. All patch sets are packed
with sounds and include full documentation on installing and accessing the
additional sounds, sample ULTRASND.INI file sections, sample Power Chords .KIT
files for easy access to drum patches, and more.
The Power Patch CD-ROM Volume 1 is a treasure trove of over 750 sampled
instrument, drum and sound effect patches for the UltraSound card. Since the
UltraSound card stores its samples in RAM, users can replace or add instrument
and drum sounds at will from the collection. Included on the CD are many drum
kits, ethnic and unusual instrument sounds, variations of the stock General
MIDI sounds, popular analog synthesizers, sound effects and much more.
FD-1 Real Instrument Set by Francois Dion of IdMEDIA
The FD-1 real instrument set includes some amazing samples of real
instruments. You've never heard detail in your UltraSound patches like these
before. (Having one megabyte of RAM on your GUS is highly recommended because
as you can see from the sizes, many of these patches are quite large!)
There are pianos, terrific sounding organs, guitars, basses and more.
FD-2 Drum Patches by Francois Dion of IdMEDIA.
This set is a comprehensive set of traditional drum machine patches from the
trusty TR-808 through the R70 series. This set alone includes over 170
individual patch files!!!
Also included are a number of tunable melodic drum patches. These are very
versatile. For example, the tunable 909 HARDTOM patch can give you an entire
kit full of drum sounds, by using just one patch played at different pitches.
There are also some incredible snare roll and snare short roll patches which
come incredibly close to the sound of a live military drummer. Included in
the set are lots of surprises, like some great gunshots that are usable as
sound effects or would sound terrific as snare sounds.
FD-3 The Super Sound Effects Set by IdMEDIA is packed with interesting, fun,
and useable sound effects. You'll have a blast just auditioning these sounds,
or using them to create MOD type MIDI sequences. You won't believe the sounds
coming out of your UltraSound.
FD-4 Analog Synth Patches by Francois Dion of IdMEDIA.
When I first tested out these analog synthesizer patches by Francois I was
immediately transported back to the Electronic Music lab where I got to dabble
with some (as it turned out) key developments in synthesized music. I was also
reminded of the countless hours I spent listening to those classic prog rock
LPs, like ELP, Egg, Genesis, King Crimson, Rick Wakeman and all the great
sounds they contained.
Now those sounds are back, sounding fresh, and are highly desired by todays
composers and musicians. (How 'bout a MiniMoog with MIDI retrofitted? It's
being done.)
This FD-4 Analog Synthesizer patch set contains piles of those cool analog
synthesizer sounds including the best from Prophet, Roland, ARP, Moog, and
many other classic synths. Contains leads, pads, analog effects, sweeps, and
lots more fascinating sounds. Analog all the way!
WOFS-1 Wall of Sound 707/808/909 Drum Kit Collection
This patch set, developed by Wall of Sound Productions, gives you the power of
the classic Roland TR series drum machines, the TR-707, 808 and 909, on your
UltraSound card. These are the sounds that are currently driving the dance
industry and will continue to do so for many years to come. These sounds are
mapped to the General MIDI standard for percussion.
Power Chords .KIT files are provided to let you access the sounds easily. Many
alternates of the key sounds are provided to let you choose from different
bass drum and snare sounds for example.
WOFS-2 Dance/Pop Collection by Wall of Sound
This patch set, developed by Wall of Sound Productions, practically hands you
the backing grooves for an instant hit single. I was amazed by the sounds Wall
of Sound jammed into my UltraSound card - from snappy, synth and slap basses,
to an awesome B3 patch (I could imagine a huge Leslie on my desk!), to ready
to rock dance and pop drum loops, complete with just the right amount of
reverb. Just add a bass line to these grooves and you've practically got a
hit.
There are tons of happening drum sounds to construct your grooves in Power
Chords, too, featuring solid kicks, crisp snares and sizzling hi-hats. Make
sure you check out the toms. Note the nice stereo panning from Low Tom 2 to Hi
Tom 1. There are driving basses, screaming lead and distortion guitars, and
full synth and organ patches to fill out your sound. This set's a winner.
A word from our friends at Wall of Sound: The dance loops may be used instead
of, or in conjunction with a standard Power Chords Drum Kit. These loops
contain the essential drum patterns for Dance and Pop type music. Note that
we have included the Beats Per Minute (BPM) number/tempo for each dance loop
and the root note number, i.e., C3. LOOP1.PAT is a special case with two
variations of the drum pattern which may be triggered indepentently of each
other. C2 and C3 trigger differently, but closely related percussion loops.
We have found the best way to use these percussion loops are in separate
Melody lines in Power Chords Pro along with your standard melody on its own
line. Special attention must be made to set the tempo in Power Chords Pro to
the same tempo/BPM as the percussion loop chosen.
Piles of Melodic sounds and loops plus:
SIX Kick Drums, THREE Snares, and a FULL VARIETY of OVER 30 DRUM SOUNDS are
also included. These drum sounds really whack!
WOFS-3 Latino Collection by Wall of Sound
These are the sounds that fuel the lusty rhythms and melodies (ooh, I kinda
like the sound of that!) of the Latino community. Their music has been adopted
by people around the world as their own because of the universal attraction of
spicy latin rhythms. Here are the sounds you need - traditional Latin
percussino sounds that get you off your feet, horn stabs, classic Latino bass
and guitar, and lots more.
WOFS-4 Sound Effects 1 Collection by Wall of Sound
This set spans a wide range of sound effects, including atmospheres, foley
effects, vocal, sci-fi and more. This set is great for adding extra spark to
your songs, games and film scores.
WOFS-5 Techno/Rave Collection by Wall of Sound
The Techno scene is the fastest growing area of music today. New styles and
sounds are constantly evolving.
This unbelievable patch set, developed by Wall of Sound Productions, contains
all sorts of sounds from startling metallic impacts, to dark menacing bass
patches, all ready to use in your techno tunes. There are essential loops
covering acid, hard core, tribal, progressive house and trance which really
bring your card alive. Also in the set are lush synth pads, and assorted
noises, beeps, stabs and vocals.
The selection of bass sounds runs to *17* and there are *over 25 kick drums*
ranging from 808 to hard core. That's a lot of choices - you are bound to find
sounds to inspire you and help you pin your grooves down. Add to these the
loops, tech synth sounds, and metallic percussion patches and you've got a
terrific set!
THAT'S NINETY UNBELIEVABLE SOUNDS IN ALL. How many will you possibly need in
your next hit?
WOFS-6 Super/Dance Loops Collection by Wall of Sound
Loops are musical building blocks that save you time and free your creativity.
Each of these patches is a measure or two of a complete percussion and/or bass
riff. You can repeat these over and over to create an unstoppable groove over
which you can add your solo or lead parts. With each loop you get the full
ambience that pure MIDI just can't give you - the interplay of the instrument
sounds, the human touch of real players, the 'sound' of a live room with its
crisp reverb and sonic reflections intact in the recording.
These sounds are a great time savers and can help inspire you - you can skip
the temptation to muddle with your percussion parts indefinitely, and more
right to a completed, great sounding groove! Dance music is emphasized, and
there are some greate rock, new age and ethnic styles loops as well.

Subject: GUS and updateed drivers (&Win 95)
I am running Windows 95 currently.
BEFORE I installed Win95, however, I lost Windows-based-MIDI
and MOD4Win use on my GUS. This is due to the installation of the ~3mb
GUS411.ZIP (4.11 I suppose) drivers. Are these supposed to work? I
get fine DOS performance -- PLAYMIDI, MOD players, games, etc. Why
does it not work under Win?
It did not START working when I installed Win95 (imagine that).
I get sound -- but no MIDI (and no DOS session sound, of course, until
Gravis releases Win95 drivers -- which will prob. fix this whole mess
(Are they going to release some, or is it going to be like it has
been w/ OS/2 drivers??)).
Can anyone give me some pointers/help? Thanks.
